Batticaloa Lagoon-(Sri Lanka)

There two more lagoons at this place, the others being Vakari and Valaichchenai lagoons. A thing that makes the Batticaloa lagoon so famous is its singing fish. It is said by locals that during April to September, on full moon nights, they hear a faint little sound that resembles the musical notes of a guitar. They believe that this sound is made by some form of marine creature that lives in the lagoon. This lagoon also attracts birdwatchers as a variety of bird species are spotted in its sea grass beds and mangrove swamps.
The two more important attractions of this place are its lighthouse and fort. The fort was constructed in 1628 by the Portuguese while the lighthouse was built by the British in 1913.
