A noted festival of the region called Gomphu Kora is held in the month of March every year. This three-day long festivity is attended by a number of people, and it also draws a large number of pilgrims from the Indian state of Arunachal Pradesh. In local parlance, the word Gomphu means meditation cave and Kora implies Circumambulation. According to legends, Myongkhapa – an evil spirit, came to this place after escaping from Tibet. He hid himself in a huge rock, next to which Gomphu Kora is located at present. A guru named Padmasambhava followed this spirit here, meditated inside a rock cave for three days and then destroyed the demon. Each year, this celebration is held to commemorate the victory of the guru or in other words the triumph of good over evil.
